BUEA COUNCIL MAINTAINS CFA 2.9 BILLION BUDGET FOR 2026 FINANCIAL YEAR

The Buea Council on Wednesday, 18 December 2025, convened its Second Ordinary Session of the year at the Buea Council Chambers, with councilors and the supervisory authority Mr. Viang Mekala Engelbert Senior Divisional Officer of Fako, reviewing council performance and setting priorities for the 2026 financial year.
 
A key highlight of the session was the examination of the council’s draft budget, which was maintained at CFA 2,900,000,000. The decision reflects the council’s determination to exercise fiscal prudence while ensuring the continuity of essential developmental projects and public services within the municipality.
 
Presiding over the deliberations, Mayor David Mafani Namange Esq, underscored the need for responsible financial management in the face of economic challenges. Councilors deliberated on expenditure allocations, revenue mobilization strategies, and the effective implementation of ongoing projects, with emphasis on infrastructure development, Hygiene and sanitation, environmental protection, and social services.
 
The session also provided an opportunity to evaluate the execution of previous council projects. Reports presented indicated steady progress in key sectors, though councilors called for greater efficiency, transparency, and community participation in council programs. They further stressed the importance of decentralization in strengthening grassroots development, urging closer collaboration between the council, traditional authorities, civil society, and development partners.
 
It was also an opportunity for the Divisional Delegate for the Ministry of Economic Planning and regional Development (MINEPAD), Mrs. Besong Pascaline to explain the new procedure to award public contracts with the online system: COLEPS, and the reporting system of the execution of Public Investment Budget. She however informed the audience that Buea Council is one of the councils in the country which do not owe contractors.
 
The Second Ordinary Session ended with a collective commitment by councilors to prioritize the welfare of the population of Buea and to ensure that, the maintained budget delivers tangible improvements in living conditions, while hoping for better days with the new finance law.
The session ended with a motion of support to H.E Present Paul Biya, congratulating him for his reelection as Head of State of the Nation, and New Year wishes to the denizens of the Municipality.
