The Buea Council, in collaboration with the Buea Association USA, today successfully launched the special citywide Keep Buea Clean exercise, mobilizing volunteers, educational institutions, and community stakeholders in a collective effort aimed at promoting environmental hygiene and sustainable urban cleanliness across the Buea Municipality.
The exercise, which is part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to ensure public sanitation and civic responsibility, recorded an encouraging level of participation, with volunteers actively engaged in cleaning public spaces, streets, and institutional environments. The campaign also featured a competitive component aimed at instilling a culture of cleanliness and environmental consciousness among young people and institutions of learning.
At the end of the exercise, Government School (GS) Buea Town emerged as the winner in the primary school’s category, after distinguishing its self in organization, teamwork, and adherence to hygiene and sanitation standards. In the secondary school’s category, Bilingual Grammar School (BGS) Molyko emerged first, while the University of Buea (UB) emerged as the overall winner in the higher institutions category, demonstrating exemplary commitment to environmental stewardship. Meantime, the WODONGO community in Buea Town won the cleanest community price.
The management represented by the 4th Deputy Mayor and the Secretary General of the Buea Council used the occasion to thank the Buea Association USA, for the maximum support and collaboration as well as thanked other stakeholders in the likes of TELCA COCOA, the volunteers and other participating institutions for their dedication and sense of civic duty. They emphasized that maintaining a clean city is a shared responsibility and noted that such collaboration contributes significantly to public health, environmental sustainability, and helps to sell the image of Buea as a clean and orderly city.
On his part, Dr Sam Mbua, President of the Buea Association USA, expressed the desire of sons and daughters of Buea based in the United States of America, to see in to it that the City of Legendary Hospitality maintains its identity as the cleanest town. Reason why one of the priorities of the association is to ensure that everyone comes on board to keep Buea Clean again.
In her closing remarks, 4th Deputy Mayor of the Buea Council reaffirmed the determination of the Council to sustain and intensify the Keep Buea Clean campaign through regular hygiene and sanitation exercises, community sensitization and partnerships with key stakeholders of the municipality.
