The First Ordinary Session of the Buea Council for the 2025 financial year dedicated to the examination and adoption of the Administrative, Management and Stores Management Account for the 2024 Financial year, took place at the Chambers of the Buea Council on 26th of March 2025, under the auspices of the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, Mr VIANG MEKALA, in the presence of political, Religious, Traditional authorities and stakeholders of the Buea Municipality.
In his opening remark, Mayor David Mafani Namange Esq announced that the session was taking place within the ambits of the law citing Sections 467 and 468 of the General Code for Regional and Local Authorities of the 24/12/2019.
He went further to state that while the budget for the year 2024 stood at two billion, nine hundred million (2,900,000,000) Franc CFA, the realization rate stood at two billion, eighty-seven million, nine hundred and ninety-six thousand five hundred and eighty-six francs (2,087,996,586) Francs CFA giving a 71.99% realization. Considering this positive stride, more amenities and projects have been earmarked for the municipality for the 2025 financial year to wit; the provision of water supply, road infrastructures, the lighting of streets, the supply of equipment to primary schools within the Buea Municipality, the construction of the Sandpit bridge, the ongoing construction of over 1000 shops at the Buea Central market under the BOT scheme just to name a few. Equally, the Council was able to make some significant progress in revenue, causing the Council to move from a class 3 Council in 2023 to a class 2 Council with a resultant effect on the earnings of staff management and councilors and other expenditures of the Council. Under the Local Governance and Resilient Community Projects (PROLOG), the Municipality has benefitted from the sum of Six hundred and thirty-three million seven hundred and eighty-three thousand nine hundred- and eighty-six-francs CFA (633,783,986) to carry out some developmental projects in some communities. Meanwhile councilors and the staff of the Buea Council were urged to redouble efforts in their various place of work so as to contribute effectively to the development of the entire Buea Municipality.
