2024 BUDGET ORIENTATION DEBATE FOR THE BUEA COUNCIL

The Chambers of the Buea Council, today Tuesday the 13 of August 2024 hosted the 2024 Budget Orientation Debate (BOD) to evaluate the mid-term expenditure framework of the Buea council.

This is in compliance to the laws No. 2019/024 of 24 December, 2019 relating to the General code of Regional and local Authorities. Whereby the council is to establish a medium-term expenditure framework (MTEF) based on the realistic economic assumptions that turns over a minimum period of 3 years.

The event moderated by the lord mayor of the Buea council DAVID MAFANI NAMANGE Esq had the third assistant to the SDO of Fako Mr. BIEYELE NOAH JOEL who represented the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako as supervisory authority, the Divisional Officer for Buea, the Divisional Delegate of MINDEVEL for Fako, Deputy Mayors, councillors of the Buea Council, HRM ROBERT ESUKA ENDELEY Paramount ruler for Buea and other stakeholders of the municipality.

This ceremony was aimed at giving the public an orientation of how far the council has gone with the realization of the 2024 budget, and envisaging how the 2025 to 2027 budgets will look like.

In an outlined presentation, the Finance Officer and the Project Adviser of the Buea Council did an in-depth analysis of the current financial and executional state of the Council resources and projects, as well as projections on the next three years in the municipality. This was not only done with positive remarks but equally had some shortcomings.    

Thus, some challenges faced in executing its budget, like revenue collection, and the reduction of the state subvention. 

In an exchange of ideas on how to better manage the situation, councillors, and stakeholders of the City of Legendary Hospitality resolved to collectively work together and see that the challenges that presents themselves are transformed to achievements. The day ended with closing remarks from Mr. Mr. BIEYELE NOAH JOEL 3RD A.S.D.O, who thanked the managing team of the Buea council and the councillors for a matured sense of democracy and development-oriented thoughts. On his own BARRISTER DAVID MAFANI NAMANGE appreciated all and called for a more inclusive participation for the development of the Buea council.
