Following Decree No. 2024/00164/PM of 25 Jan 2024 by the Prime Minister Head of government to lay down the establishment, organization and functioning of local governance and resilient communities’ projects. Thursday 8th August 2024, the Secretary General at the Governor’s Office of the South West Mr Acha Gilbert Nkwenti represent the H.E Bernard Okalia for the launching workshop of Local Governance and Resilient Communities Project (PROLOG) for the South west, under the theme “The Citizen is at the Heart of Sustainable and Inclusive Development through the Collaborative Governance between the state, Regional and Local Authorities and Communities” In attendance was, the presidents of the Regional House of Assembly in the North West and South West Regions, National Coordinator of PROLOG Cameroon, the Senior Divisional Officer for Fako, the Divisional Officer for Buea, Municipal Magistrates of the South West Region, Administrative, Religious Authorities and the Paramount chief of Buea.
The Mayor of Buea Council David Mafani Namange Esq in his speech welcomed the PROLOG committee to the city of Buea, he further elaborated by saying that the launching of PROLOG in the Southwest Region has come to accelerate the most cherished decentralization process as orchestrated by the Head of State president Paul Biya, mindful of Decree No.2011/408 of 1 August 2018 to organize the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development.
In a presentation done by the South West Regional Coordinator for PROLOG, he highlighted the objectives of PROLOG which are: To strengthen the community participation in the Local Governance, to provide key climate components and to strengthen the Capacity of Local Authorities to manage resources and implement public investment. The ceremony ended with launching speech from the secretary general of the governor’s office.
