Following the examination and adoption of the 2024 Budget of the Buea Council, in December 2023 and in line with the approval of the Budget by the Supervisory Authority, the Lord Mayor of the Buea Council, David Mafani Namange Esq, on the 29th January 2024, launched the budget of the Buea Council, for the 2024 Financial Year. Speaking on behalf of the Council, the Mayor urged Revenue collectors to improve on exploit on all necessary revenue collection sources in order to realise the earmarked budget of the Council which stood at 2.9 billion francs CFA.
The ceremony was an opportunity for management to announced targets prescribed for revenue collectors so as to meet up with the budget.
He further reminded revenue collectors that the budget is an estimate of the income and expenditure of the Council for the 2024 financial year.
The Mayor further cautioned the revenue collectors to work for their salaries and to payin their revenues on a weekly basis, warning them to desist from extortion, adding that violators of this order, will either be replaced or dismissed automatically.
The meeting was also an avenue for the Council officials to take stock of the revenue and expenditure of the Council for the 2023 Financial Year.
After a lot of brain-storming, it was resolved that in order to ensure a confidential building mechanism and to promote accountability, all payments should be done at kevel of the cashier after presentation of a collection order derived from the Finance Officer bearing the name of the tax payers and the period covered.
Secondly, that a letter of congratulation should be issued to revenue collectors who meet up with their targets.
