The launching ceremony of the 2023 Annual Buea Council Holiday Job Program and the Clean City Campaign was officially took place today Tuesday 25th July 2023 at the Buea Council Chambers. The ceremony, presided over by the 1st Deputy Mayor of Buea Council Mme Akawoh Minerva epse Molinge, in the company of the 2nd Deputy Mayor and other Service Heads of the Council. Also present were the 147 Students shortlisted for program. In her welcome address, the 1st Deputy welcomed all the students and implored them to count themselves lucky to have been selected amongst the over 370 application files. She further requested them to be hard working and reminded them that in line with the radio communique endorsed by the Mayor, the holiday job program requires only MANUAL WORK and will entail the emptying of gutters/drainages and the clearing of strategic areas of the municipality. Questioned on this year’s innovations, the 1st Deputy Mayor said the major innovation was the award of Certificates of participation to Students. According to her, the raison d’être of the program is to instill a work culture on the students. Effective work will kick off tomorrow Wednesday 26/ 7/2023 and will last for 3 weeks.
The event was an opportunity to also launch the activities for the Clean City Campaign in view of the Annual National Clean City Contest to take place in the months ahead.
