COURTESY VISIT OF THE MODEL UNITED NATIONS YOUNG LEADERS PARLIAMENT TO THE BUEA COUNCIL.

Following a correspondence from the president of the United Nation’s Young Leaders Parliament, Honorable Ekole Alphonse, the Lord Mayor of the Buea Municipality, David MAFANI NAMANGE Esq, received in audience, the President and over 15 members of the association on Friday 24/01/2025 at the Buea Council Chambers. In the course of their discussions, the president announced the raison d’etre of the visit which according to him was to promote the notion of peace, community development and social cohesion in line with the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals as well acquaint themselves with local authorities, Members of Parliament, leaders of Civil Society organizations, NGOs etc in the City of Buea. Similarly, they used the opportunity to inform the Mayor of their upcoming seminar plan slated for the 20th and 21st of February 2025 in Buea as well as their swearing-in ceremony slated for the 7th& 8th of February 2025 in Yaoundé. They further identified some key challenges faced by the population in the domains of hygiene and sanitation, poverty reduction, water supply etc. In response, the Mayor encouraged the Youth leaders to be active politically and work hand-in- glove with the Council in it’s ongoing drive for sustainable development, citing some of his achievements in the domain of water supply, like   the construction of the Liangamele water catchment, the drilling of boreholes in the neighbourhoods of Quarter 13 Great Soppo and Mekongi Quarter Great Soppo, Untarred Malingo Molingo etc. He further charged them to go back, brainstorm and develop a sustainable project and forward same to the Council for perusal and implementation. He equally urged them to identify projects and funders in and out of the country, citing some funders like PRO-LOG, NCPBM and even the UN. He finally urged them to carry out an advocacy plan for peace, since peace is a prerequisite for sustainable development, for if there is no peace, there can be no meaningful development our communities.
